So many fonts, so little time. Here a fantastic list of fonts from the Font Goblin. The people over at Typographica.org have scanned through the thousands of fonts that came out in 2006 and late 2005. They’ve filtered out the unusable ones and have come up with a list of their favourite fonts.
Their plan is to highlight the good stuff that would have normally been lost in the crowd of fonts and ultimately never see ink, or in our case screen real estate.
There’s lot’s of great fonts from all the basic styles; serif, sans, script, etc.
The list begins with some min reviews of the fonts they liked the most and follows up with a list of some great noteworthy fonts.
Here are a few of our picks from the list!
San-Serif Fonts
Vafle - A nice clean sans-serif font. Great for headings, logos, etc. with lot’s of versatility.
Bryant 2 - A nice rounded style sans-serif. A great diversion from VAGRounded, or Helvetica Rounded if your looking for something fresh.
Etelka - Etelka Wide and Narrow - We really liked this one. A nice rounded, soft block feel. Nice readability and lot’s of great variations.
Ezzo - Besides the cool name we liked this one for its clean open look.
Serif Fonts
Anziano - A legible and strong typeface with some nice personal details throughout.
Areplos - Featuring a combined use of the principles of Serif and Sans-Serif design this font uses beautiful shapes that are not too romantic or decorative in their appearance.
Slab Font
Sansa Slab - A font with a good variety of weights and sharp edgy feel.
Script Fonts
Machiarge - Looking for and alternative to Brush Script. This is it!
Affair - This font is a beautifully, romatic font with great flowing swashes.
Whomp - This font makes me feel like I’ve been Whomped - whatever that is. Legibility is a bit poor, but a great thick, freeform script font.
Buffet Script - This font makes me feel hungry. A delicious script font!
Eye Catching - A great handwritten style script font.
Sweepy - A great semi-connecting script typeface. Clean and very legible.
Lombris - Another beautiful semi-connected script with a heavy, casual look that flows like brush-drawn letters.
Head on over to Typographica for the complete list of the best fonts of 2006.
If you’re looking for new fonts to freshen up your collection, this list will not dissappoint. These fonts will be around for a long time and hopefully be put to some good use.
