There’s something here for everyone!
The folks over at CSS Showcase have put together a smashing collection of CSS Menus and CSS Navigation Tabs. It’s a nice visual presentation with a screen shot of each CSS Menu or Tab to help you pick out one that just right for you.
The first few links are from ALA which offer some CSS basics to get you started on the road to CSS menu and tab mastery. Further down Alsacreations has a nice gallery of 16 CSS Menus that follow the standards as defined by the W3C. You can even send in your own menu if you like.
There’s some nice sets of vertical and horizontal menus and 3-4 level deep menus. A few links didn’t work for me, such as the ADxMenu. But I managed to find it here.
There something here for everyone. If you don’t find exactly what you’re looking for, at the very least you’ll get some great info on how to build you own menu or tabbed navigation. If you spend a bit of time hunting through the samples you’ll be sure to find what you need.
The good stuff.
I preferred the articles that gave a thorough explanation of how the CSS worked to the samples that provided a demo with CSS code and left you to fend for yourself.
Out of this collection I liked the inverted sliding doors tabs which were very unique. They reminded me of a design I did a few years ago. I unfortunately built it with tables since CSS wasn’t too widely used at the time.
CSS Play offered a huge almost enless collection of CSS menus in their Menus section. I spent a lot of time here checking out all the samples. It made me want to re-design my site again. Most of these menus didn’t use Javascript and were a great source of inspiration.
Check twice, implement once.
If you find a menu you want to use, make sure it will work in the browsers you’re planning to support. If it doesn’t you can find one that does and modify it to your liking.

Let us know if you use any of these CSS Menus on your site. We’d love to see them on a live site.
More menu goodness!
If those aren’t enough for you here are a few more collections of CSS menus to explore:
